I am working slowly on translating this site from the french version.

Come back from time to time to check on my progress.

pierre barilOn my father's side of the family, almost everyone demonstrates a talent for some form of art. Some of my relatives play music, a few create beautiful paintings, most of them master a craft or another. I studied and worked in chemistry, management and pedagogyand now I teach.

In 1998, I decided to develop my skills in cabinet making. I was influenced in that choice by childhood memories of my grandfather. I used to watch him for hours working in his workshop in the Eastern Townships.

I took a basic course at the Jean-Claude-Malépart Centre, in Montreal, where I studied for three years. Then, finewoodworking became more than just a hobby. Magazines, books, videos and Web sites were not enough. So, in 2002, I enrolled into a program leading to an "Attestation d'études collégiales en ébénisterie (AEC)" at the "École nationale du meuble et de l'ébénisterie à Montréal". I completed the course, first part time, then for the last two years, fulltime. I graduated in December of 2007.

In this Web site, I present my creations, the ones I made in the various courses I followed and the ones I made during my spare time or on contract. Of course, I will update the pages each time I have another piece finished.

I also show pieces made by some of my friends. They are furniture makers, turners and carvers. They studied with me. We spent many hours together. They are people I appreciate and respect.

And... why not take the opportunity to show you some of the best holiday snapshots my girlfriend and I took. It his better to share them than to leave them on the bottom of a drawer or on a shelf somewhere!

I hope you will understand that this site is a work in progress. Some sections are not quite finished yet. It will give you a reason to come back and revisit.

I hope you will enjoy the visit. Feel free to send me your comments.
